Use when the user asks to review,\n  audit, or optimize prompts, system messages, LLM instructions, or agent\n  prompts.\n---\n\n# Prompt Review\n\nConduct a structured review of every prompt in the codebase: system prompts,\nsummarization instructions, tool descriptions, dynamic injections, and any\nstring literal that will be sent to an LLM as instruction or context.\n\n## When NOT to Use This Skill\n\n- The prompt is already producing correct, reliable output and no specific\n  issue has been reported.\n- The prompt is small (<50 tokens) — micro-optimizations risk breaking\n  behavior.\n- The prompt uses model-specific patterns (XML tags for Claude, markdown for\n  GPT-4) that don't match generic advice in the checklist.\n- The user hasn't asked for a review — don't proactively optimize prompts\n  that work.\n\n## Discovery Phase\n\nLocate ALL prompts before reviewing. Prompts appear in several forms:\n\n1. **Dedicated prompt files** — `.txt`, `.md`, `.jinja2`, `.hbs`, `.mustache`,\n   or constants modules (e.g. `prompts.py`, `prompts.ts`, `prompts.go`,\n   `system_prompt.txt`).\n2. **String-literal prompts** — variables/constants named `*PROMPT*`,\n   `*INSTRUCTION*`, `SYSTEM_*`, or strings passed to LLM calls\n   (`\"role\": \"system\"` in any language).\n3. **Dynamically constructed prompts** — string interpolation (Python\n   f-strings, JS template literals, Go `fmt.Sprintf`, Ruby `#{}`, etc.),\n   `.format()`, template rendering, or concatenation that assembles messages\n   at runtime.\n4. **Tool/function descriptions** — `description` fields in OpenAI\n   function-calling schemas, tool definitions, or similar structured metadata.\n5. **Inline context injections** — ephemeral system messages injected per-call\n   (dates, user metadata, progress state).\n\n**Discovery strategy**: First determine which languages and frameworks the\nproject uses, then apply appropriate search patterns. The LLM is\nvery capable, but context *activates* its knowledge — don't strip reminders\nthat direct attention to the right domain. Every token competes for context\nwindow space, but a wrong answer costs more than a few extra tokens.
