It covers the reasoning, production, rendering, and verification needed\nfor an academic deck. It does not depend on a private template or closed helper.\n\nRead these resources when needed:\n\n- [content_guidelines.md](content_guidelines.md) for argument, evidence, timing,\n  citations, and speaker-note decisions.\n- [slide_patterns.md](slide_patterns.md) for reusable academic slide structures.\n\n## Runtime Contract\n\n- Respect the user's institution template, existing deck, and repository.\n- Use standard presentation tooling available in the environment, such as\n  PptxGenJS, python-pptx, LibreOffice, PowerPoint automation, or a runtime\n  presentation tool.\n- Check fonts, packages, rendering tools, image support, and file access before\n  committing to an implementation path.\n- Keep source documents unchanged unless the user asks to edit them.\n- Resolve paths from the active project or this skill directory.\n- Never fabricate research results, citations, quotations, or missing values.\n\n## Expected Deliverables\n\nUnless the request is planning-only, produce:\n\n- an editable `.pptx`;\n- the slide outline or build source used to create it;\n- rendered slide previews or a PDF for visual inspection when tooling permits;\n- a concise verification report covering content, layout, and file integrity.\n\n## Workflow\n\n### 1. Inventory the Evidence\n\nRead the supplied paper, manuscript, notes, figures, tables, data, branding, and\nexisting slides. Build an evidence ledger with:\n\n- claim or message;\n- supporting source;\n- figure, table, quotation, or calculation available;\n- citation details;\n- confidence or unresolved gap;\n- permission or provenance notes for external media.\n\nMark missing information explicitly. Do not fill gaps with plausible-sounding\ncontent.\n\n### 2. Set the Talk Contract\n\nDetermine:\n\n- audience knowledge and likely questions;\n- presentation type;\n- allotted talk time and question time;\n- required sections or institutional rules;\n- one sentence the audience should remember;\n- one action or judgment the closing should support.\n\nUse reasonable defaults when the user has not specified them, and record those\ndefaults in the working outline.\n\n### 3. Allocate Time and Slides\n\nReserve time for orientation, evidence, synthesis, and a deliberate close.\nEstimate slide count from content complexity and speaking time, not from a fixed\nratio. Dense equations, methods diagrams, and result interpretation need more\ntime than title or transition slides.\n\nMove secondary analyses, derivations, extended literature comparisons, and\nanticipated challenge questions to an appendix.\n\n### 4. Build the Argument Outline\n\nCreate a slide-by-slide plan containing:\n\n- slide number;\n- message title written as a conclusion or question;\n- purpose in the argument;\n- evidence or visual;\n- citation;\n- expected speaking time;\n- notes or transition.\n\nRead only the message titles in order. They should form a defensible chain from\nproblem to evidence to conclusion. Repair missing logic before creating slides.\n\n### 5. Choose a Production Path\n\nPrefer the project's existing presentation stack. Otherwise select a standard\ntool according to the task:\n\n- **PptxGenJS:** strong for programmatic layouts, charts, and reusable helpers.\n- **python-pptx:** suitable for deterministic text, shapes, tables, and image\n  placement.\n- **LibreOffice or PowerPoint automation:** useful for conversion, rendering,\n  and final compatibility checks.\n- **Existing template editing:** appropriate when the institution supplies a\n  required master deck.\n\nDo not introduce a new dependency when the installed stack can complete the\nwork. Keep generated source deterministic so a later revision can be rebuilt.\n\n### 6. Define the Slide System\n\nBefore building all slides, define:\n\n- slide size, normally 16:9 unless a template specifies otherwise;\n- safe margins and a stable content grid;\n- title, body, caption, citation, and numeric text roles;\n- a restrained color system with accessible contrast;\n- chart colors that remain distinguishable without color alone;\n- placement rules for slide numbers, sources, and affiliation;\n- image cropping and attribution behavior.\n\nBuild one representative content slide and render it early. Correct the system\nbefore multiplying layout problems across the deck.\n\n### 7. Build the Deck\n\nUse master layouts or reusable functions for repeated structures. Keep each\nslide focused on one audience decision:\n\n- what to notice;\n- how the evidence supports it;\n- what qualification is necessary;\n- how it connects to the next slide.\n\nPrefer direct labels and annotations over legends that require eye travel.\nPreserve uncertainty, units, sample sizes, and baseline definitions. Put sources\non the slide where borrowed evidence appears.\n\nUse speaker notes for delivery cues, transitions, caveats, and detail that\nshould not crowd the projected slide.\n\n### 8. Render and Inspect\n\nOpen or render the generated file using an independent presentation engine when\navailable. Inspect every slide as an image or in slide-sorter view.\n\nCheck:\n\n- missing fonts, images, symbols, equations, or glyphs;\n- clipped text and objects outside the canvas;\n- accidental overlaps and inconsistent alignment;\n- titles that wrap into content;\n- tiny axes, labels, citations, and footnotes;\n- stretched or poorly cropped images;\n- chart values and table cells against the source;\n- visual continuity between adjacent slides.\n\nRepeat the render after corrections. A successful file write is not visual\nproof.\n\n### 9. Rehearsal Pass\n\nReview the deck in speaking order:\n\n- opening reaches the research question quickly;\n- terminology is introduced before use;\n- each result receives interpretation;\n- transitions explain why the next slide follows;\n- limitations match the actual evidence;\n- the conclusion answers the opening problem;\n- main-deck timing fits without rushing;\n- appendix slides cover foreseeable technical questions.\n\nWhen rehearsal exceeds the limit, remove or relocate content instead of reducing\nlegibility.\n\n### 10. Structural Validation\n\nRun the checks available for the chosen stack:\n\n- open the PPTX as a ZIP package and confirm required parts exist;\n- reopen it with a presentation library or application;\n- confirm slide count and expected media;\n- scan source text for placeholders and unresolved TODO markers;\n- verify links and citations where possible;\n- confirm the output path and final filenames;\n- report any check that could not be performed.\n\n## Presentation Modes\n\n### Conference or Seminar\n\nMove rapidly from motivation to the central question. Spend most time on the\nstrongest evidence and its interpretation. Keep literature context selective.\n\n### Thesis Defense\n\nMake the research program visible: problem, contributions, chapter or study\nrelationship, evidence, limitations, and future work. Prepare appendix answers\nfor methods, robustness, and committee-specific concerns.\n\n### Grant or Review Panel\n\nConnect significance, proposed work, feasibility, evaluation, risk controls,\nmilestones, and requested support. Distinguish completed evidence from planned\nwork.\n\n### Teaching or Invited Lecture\n\nSequence concepts by prerequisite. Include examples, pauses for synthesis, and\nrecap slides.
