Add dataset-specific\nlibraries (e.g. `metatools`, `tfrmt`) per child skill requirements.\n\n```r\nlibrary(admiral)\nlibrary(dplyr)\nlibrary(lubridate)\n\n# For submission-ready output\nlibrary(metacore)\nlibrary(xportr)\n\n# For benchmark reproducibility\nlibrary(pharmaversesdtm)\nlibrary(pharmaverseadam)\n```\n\n---\n\n## Pipe and Expression Style\n\n**Always use the native pipe `|>`** — not the magrittr pipe `%>%`. admiral\nfunctions accept `|>` and it is the pharmaverse standard for new code.\n\n**Always use `exprs()` for admiral verb arguments** that accept variable lists.\nThe `exprs()` wrapper is required for `by_vars`, `new_vars`, `order`, and\n`source_vars` arguments in admiral functions. Bare variable names or character\nstrings will not work.\n\n```r\n# CORRECT\nderive_vars_merged(\n  by_vars  = exprs(STUDYID, USUBJID),\n  new_vars = exprs(TRTSDT = EXSTDT),\n  order    = exprs(EXSTDT)\n)\n\n# WRONG — does not work with admiral\nderive_vars_merged(\n  by_vars  = c(\"STUDYID\", \"USUBJID\"),\n  new_vars = c(TRTSDT = EXSTDT)\n)\n```\n\n---\n\n## Date Derivation Rules\n\n**Never use `as.Date()`, `as.POSIXct()`, or `convert_dtc_to_date()` directly\non `--DTC` variables.** These silently return `NA` for partial dates (e.g.\n`\"2023-06\"`, `\"2023\"`) without any warning.\n\nAlways use the admiral date functions:\n\n| Goal | Function |\n|---|---|\n| `--DTC` → Date variable | `derive_vars_dt()` |\n| `--DTC` → Datetime variable | `derive_vars_dtm()` |\n| Study day from dates | `derive_vars_dy()` |\n| Treatment duration | `derive_var_trtdurd()` |\n\n### Imputation direction\n\n| Date type | Rule | admiral argument |\n|---|---|---|\n| Start dates (TRTSDT, ADT for start events) | Impute to earliest | `date_imputation = \"first\"` |\n| End dates (TRTEDT, EOSDT) | Impute to latest | `date_imputation = \"last\"` |\n| Time when absent — start | `\"00:00:00\"` | `time_imputation = \"first\"` |\n| Time when absent — end | `\"23:59:59\"` | `time_imputation = \"last\"` |\n\n**Always use `flag_imputation = \"auto\"`** — this auto-generates `--DTF` and\n`--TMF` imputation flag variables. Always use\n`derive_vars_dy()`. Never compute manually with `date2 - date1`.\n\n---\n\n## Flag Variable Convention\n\n**Flag variables must be `\"Y\"` or `NA` — never `\"N\"`.**\n\nThis applies to all flag types: population flags (`--FL`), baseline flags\n(`ABLFL`), analysis flags (`ANL01FL`), and any other indicator variable.\n\n```r\n# CORRECT\nmutate(SAFFL = if_else(has_dose, \"Y\", NA_character_))\n\n# WRONG — violates CDISC ADaM convention\nmutate(SAFFL = if_else(has_dose, \"Y\", \"N\"))\n```\n\nWhen using `derive_var_merged_exist_flag()`, always set both:\n- `true_value    = \"Y\"`\n- `false_value   = NA_character_`\n- `missing_value = NA_character_`\n\n---\n\n## DOMAIN Variable Removal\n\nRemove `DOMAIN` from source datasets before passing to `derive_vars_merged()`.\nadmiral errors if a variable exists in both the input dataset and the source.\n\n```r\n# Pattern for ADSL and all BDS derivations\nadsl <- adsl |>\n  derive_vars_merged(\n    dataset_add = select(ex, -DOMAIN),\n    by_vars     = exprs(STUDYID, USUBJID),\n    ...\n  )\n```\n\nThis applies to all SDTM source domains — EX, DS, VS, LB, AE, etc.\n\n---\n\n## QC Patterns\n\n### Uniqueness assertions\n\nUse `stopifnot()` to assert structural assumptions before proceeding.
