Log exact redacted commands and results in\n`commands.md`; record revisions, configurations, tool versions, and hashes when\nthey affect reproducibility. Separate observations from inferences and edit\nsource only when requested.\n\nKeep QEMU builds under source-root `builds/build-<target>/`; put third-party\ndependencies and non-QEMU binaries in task `output/`. Before writing audit\nartifacts or configuring QEMU in a Git worktree, add `.agents/`,\n`.oh-my-qemu/`, and `builds/` to the repository-local file from\n`git rev-parse --git-path info/exclude`; preserve existing entries and avoid\nduplicates. Never stage or commit those directories. At handoff, verify them\nabsent from `git status --short`. Report the task directory and unresolved gaps.\n\n## QEMU upstream boundary\n\nQEMU's official GitLab and mailing lists are upstream project channels. A\npatch becomes an upstream contribution when sent to the mailing-list recipients\nselected through `MAINTAINERS`; do not prepare or send agent-generated patches\nfor that submission. Local branches, commits, patch files, pushes, and pull\nrequests are not by themselves QEMU upstream contributions. Perform those Git\nactions only when requested and follow the workspace's Git policy.\n\n## Evidence ladder\n\nGiven a falsifiable claim and existing evidence, report `PASS`, `FAIL`, or\n`INCONCLUSIVE` without inventing missing evidence. Use the lowest rung that\nproves the claim:\n\n1. **Static inspection**: source/docs establish a fact.\n2. **Build**: touched target compiles.\n3. **Unit/qtest**: register, IRQ, timer, memory, or board contract holds.\n4. **Trace/log**: the expected runtime path executes and the bad path does not.\n5. **Boot smoke**: firmware/kernel reaches a named milestone.\n6. **Workload**: guest output proves the modeled hardware was consumed correctly.\n7. **Replay/reproduction**: failure is deterministic or captured for later analysis.\n\nDo not claim device correctness from a boot banner alone.\n\n## Required artifact discipline\n\nRecord in `.oh-my-qemu/<task-slug>/audit.md`:\n\n- exact command line;\n- QEMU binary and build directory;\n- image paths and hashes/build IDs;\n- accelerator and machine type;\n- positive marker expected;\n- negative markers checked;\n- log/trace/replay paths;\n- what the evidence proves;\n- what remains unproven.\n\n## Failure classification\n\nClassify before changing model code:\n\n- environment/toolchain/build directory;\n- stale or wrong image;\n- boot ABI mismatch;\n- board topology mismatch;\n- device register/IRQ/timer/DMA semantics;\n- TCG frontend/backend bug;\n- guest/application bug unrelated to the model.\n\nOnly topology, model-semantics, and TCG categories usually justify source changes.\n\n## Register model structure gate\n\nFor every guest-visible control/status register bank, reconstruct the framework\ndecision from current evidence and statically verify:\n\n- policy present in the target QEMU workspace is applied first, compatible\n  explicit user direction only when policy does not decide, and a clear nearby\n  subsystem convention only when neither higher-priority input decides and\n  that convention is maintained;\n- `RegisterInfo` is selected when none of those inputs decides;\n- any existing decision record matches the reconstructed decision;\n- the selected `RegisterInfo` or manual MMIO implementation matches that\n  decision;\n- register offsets, field macros, backing storage, framework tables, and\n  register-local callbacks live in the device `.c` file;\n- no header or board file owns register layout or semantics;\n- a `RegisterInfo` implementation uses the checked-out tree's current API;\n- a manual MMIO implementation is selected by target-workspace policy, or,\n  when that policy does not decide, by compatible explicit user direction, or,\n  when neither decides, by a clear maintained nearby subsystem convention.\n\nReport `FAIL` when current evidence does not justify the implementation, an\nexisting record contradicts the reconstructed decision, or the source layout\nviolates the gate. Do not fail solely because no historical decision artifact\nexists; for a non-trivial task that writes to the workspace, record the\nreconstructed decision and rationale in `audit.md`. Do not fail merely because\nthe justified choice is manual MMIO.
