Do not add an unrelated research,\ndownload, editing, or production workflow.\n\n## Check availability\n\nBefore the first call in a task, run:\n\n```bash\ncommand -v grok\ngrok models\n```\n\n`grok models` must confirm that the user is logged in and show at least one\navailable model. If authentication is missing, report it and run `grok login`\nonly when the user wants to authenticate interactively.\n\n## Choose the call form\n\nFor a direct single-turn answer that does not need Grok tools:\n\n```bash\ngrok --single 'PROMPT' --output-format plain\n```\n\nFor an agentic task that may use Grok's tools, including X or web search, put\nthe full prompt in a UTF-8 file and run:\n\n```bash\ngrok --prompt-file '/absolute/path/prompt.md' \\\n  --max-turns 8 \\\n  --output-format plain\n```\n\nUse `--model MODEL` only when the user requests a particular available model.\nOtherwise use Grok's configured default.\n\n## Run from Codex\n\n1. For a long prompt, create `prompt.md` with `apply_patch`; avoid fragile shell\n   quoting.\n2. Start Grok with `exec_command`, normally using `yield_time_ms: 1000`.\n3. If the command returns a session ID, poll it with `write_stdin`, sending an\n   empty string and waiting at most 30 seconds per poll.\n4. Share a concise progress update when a call runs longer than 60 seconds.\n5. Capture Grok's final stdout. Treat a nonzero exit code, `Max turns reached`,\n   or empty final output as failure.\n6. Return Grok's answer to the user, clearly identified as Grok's result when\n   attribution matters.\n\n## Isolation\n\nWhen Grok should only execute the supplied prompt and must not inspect the\ncurrent repository's skills or instructions, give it an empty temporary\nworking directory:\n\n```bash\nGROK_CALL_DIR=\"$(mktemp -d)\"\ngrok --cwd \"$GROK_CALL_DIR\" --no-memory --no-subagents \\\n  --prompt-file '/absolute/path/prompt.md' \\\n  --max-turns 8 \\\n  --output-format plain\n```\n\nUse this isolation by default for web/X research and independent second\nopinions.
