The prose is translated but\neverything technical stays in English so the docs remain accurate and usable by\nengineers.\n\n**Default language is Chinese (`ZH`).** If the user names another language, use\nits code instead (see the table below).\n\n## Translation modes\n\nFirst decide what's being translated — a whole folder or a single file — because\nthe output shape differs.\n\n**Folder mode (default).** The target is a `CODE_EXPLANATION/` folder (or any\nfolder of docs). Produce a parallel folder named `_` (e.g.\n`CODE_EXPLANATION_ZH`) with the same files. See *Folder mode* below.\n\n**Single-file mode.** The target is one file. Choose between two output styles\nbased on the file's length, because what's pleasant to read differs by size:\n\n- **Bilingual / interleaved (small files, < 50 lines).** Update the file\n in place so each prose line is immediately followed by its translation —\n English line, then Chinese line. For short files this keeps original and\n translation together and is easy to scan. See *Single-file mode → Bilingual*.\n- **Sidecar file (larger files, ≥ 50 lines).** Don't clutter a long file with\n interleaving. Instead create a fully-translated copy named\n `_.` (e.g. `notes_zh.md`) in the **same folder**, leaving the\n original untouched. See *Single-file mode → Sidecar*.\n\nUse the line count of the source file to pick the style; if the user explicitly\nasks for one style, honor that regardless of size.\n\nIn every mode, the rules in *What to translate vs. keep as-is* apply.\n\n## Folder mode\n\n### 1. Locate the source folder\n\nFind the explanation folder to translate. By default this is `CODE_EXPLANATION/`\nat the repo root. If it isn't there, search for it\n(`find . -type d -name 'CODE_EXPLANATION' -not -path '*/node_modules/*'`) and\nconfirm with the user if there are multiple candidates. List its files so you\nknow exactly what to translate — typically `OVERVIEW.md` and numbered files like\n`01_architecture.md`, `02_models.md`, etc.\n\n### 2. Resolve the target language and output folder\n\nMap the requested language to a short uppercase code and create the output\nfolder `CODE_EXPLANATION_` as a sibling of the source folder.\n\n| Language | Code | Output folder |\n|-----------|------|----------------------------|\n| Chinese | `ZH` | `CODE_EXPLANATION_ZH` |\n| Spanish | `ES` | `CODE_EXPLANATION_ES` |\n| French | `FR` | `CODE_EXPLANATION_FR` |\n| German | `DE` | `CODE_EXPLANATION_DE` |\n| Japanese | `JA` | `CODE_EXPLANATION_JA` |\n| Korean | `KO` | `CODE_EXPLANATION_KO` |\n| Hindi | `HI` | `CODE_EXPLANATION_HI` |\n| Portuguese| `PT` | `CODE_EXPLANATION_PT` |\n\nIf no language is given, **default to Chinese (`ZH`)**. For a language not in the\ntable, use its common two-letter ISO 639-1 code, uppercased.\n\n### 3. Translate each file, one by one\n\nFor every file in the source folder, create a file with the **exact same name**\nin the output folder. Filenames never change — `01_architecture.md` stays\n`01_architecture.md`, not `01_架构.md`. This keeps the two folders aligned\nside by side so a reader can compare them file-for-file.\n\nTranslate the **prose** into the target language while keeping everything\ntechnical in English. Read each source file, translate its content, and write\nthe result. Don't translate by guesswork from filenames — translate the actual\ncontent.\n\n## Single-file mode\n\nWhen the target is a single file (not a folder), first count its lines to choose\nthe output style, then resolve the language code (Chinese/`ZH` by default).\n\n### Bilingual / interleaved (small files, < 50 lines)\n\nEdit the file **in place**. After each translatable prose line, insert its\ntranslation on the next line, so the file alternates English then the target\nlanguage. This keeps a short file readable as a single bilingual document.\n\n- Leave **code blocks verbatim and unduplicated** — never interleave inside a\n fenced block; just keep it once.\n- For a heading, put the original heading, then the translated heading on the\n next line (both as headings).\n- Blank lines and structure stay intact.\n\nExample (English file → bilingual):\n\n```markdown\n# Architecture\n# 架构\n\nThe handler authenticates the caller, then renders a response.\n该 handler 会对调用方进行认证，然后渲染出一个 response。\n```\n\n### Sidecar file (larger files, ≥ 50 lines)\n\nDon't interleave a long file — it becomes hard to read. Instead create a new\nfile in the **same folder** named `_.`: take the original\nfilename, insert `_` before the extension (lowercase code), e.g.\n`design.md` → `design_zh.md`, `README.txt` → `README_zh.txt`. Write a complete\ntranslation there following the standard rules, and leave the original file\nunchanged.\n\n## What to translate vs. keep as-is\n\nThe guiding idea: an engineer reading the translated docs should see their own\nlanguage for the *explanations*, but the exact same code and terminology they'd\nfind in the editor. Translating an identifier or a library name would make the\ndocs wrong and unsearchable, so leave those untouched.\n\n**Translate** (the prose):\n- Sentences and paragraphs that explain things.\n- The descriptive part of headings — but keep technical nouns in English.\n Example: `## Data models and validation` → `## 数据模型与 validation`\n (translate the connective prose, keep `validation` as the technical term).\n- Table cells that contain descriptions/explanations.\n\n**Keep exactly as-is (do NOT translate):**\n- **Filenames** — same name in the output folder.\n- **Fenced code blocks** (```` ```…``` ````) — copy verbatim, including any code\n comments. Code is code.\n- **Inline code** in backticks — `RequestHandler`, `pip install treecap`,\n `src/server/handler.py`.\n- **Identifiers and symbols** — class/function/variable names, module paths,\n file paths, line references like `handler.py:42`.\n- **Library, framework, tool, and product names** — `FastAPI`, `Pydantic`,\n `React`, `PostgreSQL`, `treecap`.\n- **Established technical terms** — keep them in English inline within the\n translated sentence (e.g. dependency injection, middleware, registry pattern,\n endpoint, schema, async). These are the shared vocabulary engineers use\n regardless of spoken language; translating them adds confusion, not clarity.\n- **URLs, commands, and config snippets.**\n\n### Example (English → Chinese)\n\nSource (`01_architecture.md`):\n\n````markdown\nThe central request handler lives in `src/server/handler.py`.
