Triggers — 「提交 App Store」「上架」「app store 审核」「准备截图和文案」「submit for review」「/wjs-publishing-appstore」.\n---\n\n# wjs-publishing-appstore\n\nTake an iOS app that's already building to **TestFlight** and ship it to the\n**App Store**: prepare the **screenshots** + **description/metadata**, then use\nthe existing **fastlane** to **submit for review**.\n\nThis is the App Store counterpart to **`wjs-publishing-testflight`**, which is a\n**prerequisite** — that skill owns build / signing (`match`) / CI / the `beta`\nlane. This skill assumes that's done and only adds the listing + a deliberate\n`release` lane. Reference implementations: **VoiceDrop**, **Cathier**.\n\n## Mental model\n\n```\ngit push → main      → beta lane    → TestFlight        (unchanged, automatic)\nfastlane release     → release lane → metadata + screenshots → submit for review\n```\n\nSubmitting to review is high-stakes, so it is **never** triggered by a push — it\nis the explicit `fastlane release` command you run on purpose.\n\n## Prerequisites\n\n- `wjs-publishing-testflight` already set up: `match` appstore certs, the\n  `ASC_API_*` secrets, a working `beta` lane, and **at least one build already\n  uploaded to TestFlight** (this also creates the App Store Connect app record).\n- Apple credentials / ASC API key: see [[apple-developer-credentials]] and the\n  prerequisites table in `wjs-publishing-testflight` — do **not** re-list secrets\n  here (this skill auto-publishes to a public repo).\n- If the App Store Connect app record does **not** exist yet, create it once:\n  `bundle exec fastlane produce -u jianshuo@hotmail.com -a <BUNDLE_ID> --app_name \"<Name>\"`.\n\n## Steps\n\n### 1. Scaffold the metadata tree\n```bash\nscripts/scaffold-metadata.sh        # from this skill; run at the repo root\n```\nCreates `fastlane/metadata/{zh-Hans,en-US}/*.txt` + `review_information/` +\ntop-level category/copyright, seeded with editable VoiceDrop copy. Re-running\nnever overwrites existing files.\n\n### 2. Write the real copy\nEdit every `.txt`. Watch the limits: **name 30 · subtitle 30 · keywords 100\n(comma-separated, no spaces) · promotional_text 170 · description 4000**. Fill in\n`review_information/` (phone, and a demo account only if login is required) and\nthe privacy URL.\n\n**The App Store `name` is globally unique.** A short common name (\"VoiceDrop\")\nis almost certainly already taken by another account — the submit then dies at\n`upload_to_app_store` with *\"The app name you entered is already being used.\"*\nThis is the **display name only**; the home-screen name (`CFBundleDisplayName`)\nis separate and can stay whatever you like. Pick a distinct string (e.g. add a\nword or a Chinese suffix — \"VoiceDrop 口述\"); longer = safer. It's per-locale and\nchangeable in a later version, so it's not permanent.\n\n### 3. Shoot screenshots\n```bash\nscripts/shoot.sh                    # default: iPhone 16 Pro Max (6.9\"), zh-Hans\nLOCALE=en-US scripts/shoot.sh       # second locale\n```\nEdit `drive_screens()` in `shoot.sh` to hit each marketing screen (3–6, named\n`01_*`, `02_*`…). It boots a sim, builds, installs, captures into\n`fastlane/screenshots/<locale>/`. `FRAME=1` adds `frameit` framing.\n\n**Required size:** only the **6.9\" display (1320×2868)** is mandatory and it\ncovers iPhone-only apps. Add a 13\" iPad pass **only** if\n`TARGETED_DEVICE_FAMILY` includes iPad (VoiceDrop is iPhone-only → one size).\n\n**Mic-permission gotcha:** if the app requests microphone/record permission, iOS\nshows a dialog `xcrun simctl privacy grant microphone` does **not** suppress (a\nreal iOS 26 sim limitation). Open Simulator.app, tap 允许/Allow **once** — the\ngrant persists for the install, so re-running `shoot.sh` then captures a clean\nframe. (`simctl` has no `tap`; don't try to click it from the script — synthetic\nclicks via `osascript` need macOS Accessibility permission the runner lacks.)\n\n**Other iOS 26 sim screenshot gotchas:**\n- To screenshot a screen you can't reach without a tap, temporarily root the app\n  into that view (env-gated `DebugRoot`), and **seed its data via the app's own\n  token** (a sim regenerates its synchronizable-Keychain identity on every\n  reinstall — no iCloud account — so injected data under an old identity won't\n  show; on a real device the identity persists).\n- The sim paints a faint **ghost of `TabView` labels** near the Dynamic Island\n  even for a bare two-tab `TabView` — a sim-only Liquid Glass artifact, not in\n  your app. Don't chase it; verify on device.\n\n### 4. Add the `release` lane\nPaste `scripts/release_lane.rb` into the existing `fastlane/Fastfile` inside\n`platform :ios do … end`. It uploads metadata + screenshots (the TestFlight lane\nsets `skip_metadata`/`skip_screenshots: true`; this lane sets them `false`),\nthen `submit_for_review: true` with the encryption/IDFA compliance answers,\nguarded by `guard_not_in_review`.\n\n### 5. Preview, then submit\n```bash\n# dry-run the listing without submitting (writes an HTML preview, no upload):\nbundle exec fastlane deliver --skip_binary_upload true --submit_for_review false --force false\n\n# real submit (uses the build already on TestFlight for this version):\nbundle exec fastlane release skip_build:true     # reuse the TestFlight build\nbundle exec fastlane release                      # or build a fresh one first\n```\nRun locally, or via the CI `workflow_dispatch` if your `build.yml` routes a\n`appstore` choice to `fastlane release` (see `wjs-publishing-testflight` Step 3).\n\n**Robust two-step ship (what actually worked):** `git push` → the `beta` lane\nbuilds and uploads to TestFlight **and waits for Apple to finish processing** →\n*then* dispatch `appstore` → `fastlane release skip_build:true` reuses that\nalready-processed build. Building a fresh binary inside the release lane risks\nsubmitting before the build is processed. CI checks out `main`, so **metadata +\nscreenshots must be committed to `main` before you dispatch.**\n\n**Un-ignore the screenshots.** The TestFlight-only setup often has\n`fastlane/screenshots/` in `.gitignore` (that flow uses `skip_screenshots`). This\nlane uploads them, so they **must be committed** — remove that ignore line (keep\nignoring only `frameit` extras) or CI uploads nothing.\n\n## App Store Connect one-time gotchas (first submission)\n\nThese live in the ASC web console, **not** in fastlane metadata, and fastlane\nwill refuse the submit until they're set. **Do all of them once before the first\n`fastlane release`** — they're sticky (later versions don't need them redone).\nA submit that hits these fails at the *very last step*: the metadata + screenshots\nhave already uploaded, so just fix the console items and re-dispatch — nothing is\nre-uploaded. The real error block lists all the missing attributes at once\n(`violenceCartoonOrFantasy`, `ageAssurance`, `contentRightsDeclaration`, *\"App is\nnot eligible for submission until pricing has been set\"* …).\n\n- **Age rating** questionnaire — answer all None/No for a utility. Apple\n  **expanded this in 2025** (new fields: `ageAssurance`, `parentalControls`,\n  `messagingAndChat`, `healthOrWellnessTopics`, …) that fastlane's rating config\n  does **not** fully cover — so do it in the **web console**, not via fastlane.\n- **Pricing & Availability** — set Price = **Free** + territories. Until set:\n  *\"App is not eligible for submission until pricing has been set.\"*\n- **Content Rights** declaration (App Information) — \"does not use third-party\n  content\" for most apps.\n- **App Privacy** \"nutrition label\" — declare data collection. VoiceDrop: audio\n  is user content to the user's own store; location is optional/coarse (filename\n  only); Sign in with Apple is an anonymous identifier; no tracking.\n- **Export compliance** — handled by the lane (`export_compliance_uses_encryption:\n  false`); no console action.\n- A **build** must be attached (the lane does this) before review.\n\n## Updating a version that's already in review\n\n`guard_not_in_review` (and Apple) will block a re-submit while the version is\n**Waiting for Review**. To swap in a newer build, fix copy, or add a screenshot:\nin ASC open the version → **\"Remove this version from review\"** (back to editable)\n→ then re-dispatch `fastlane release skip_build:true`.
