Treat each event as a versioned contract, validate unknown payloads, keep terminal states final, make reducers resilient to future events, and test interruption, ordering, cancellation, and timeout cases.\n\nTreat streaming as a contract, not as ad hoc text appended to the UI. Every\nevent should have a stable type, runtime validation, ordering behavior, and a\ndefined effect on state.\n\n## Contract Shape\n\nDefine a discriminated union for runtime events:\n\n```ts\ntype RuntimeEvent =\n  | { type: 'workflow.started'; runId: string; ts: number }\n  | { type: 'step.started'; stepId: string; label: string; ts: number }\n  | { type: 'step.progress'; stepId: string; message?: string; ts: number }\n  | { type: 'step.completed'; stepId: string; durationMs?: number; ts: number }\n  | { type: 'step.failed'; stepId: string; errorCode: string; ts: number }\n  | { type: 'answer.delta'; delta: string; ts: number }\n  | { type: 'card.emitted'; cardType: string; payload: unknown; ts: number };\n```\n\nUse a parser that accepts `unknown`, validates the event, and returns either a\nknown event or an explicit unknown-event fallback.\n\n## State Rules\n\n- Terminal states are final: `success`, `error`, `cancelled`, and `timeout`\n  must not return to `running`.\n- Progress events must not overwrite completed results.\n- Duplicate events should be idempotent when an event id is available.\n- Out-of-order events should be ignored, buffered, or reconciled by a documented\n  rule.\n- Reducers must handle unknown event types without crashing.\n- Event state should be keyed by stable identifiers such as `runId`, `stepId`,\n  `messageId`, or `toolCallId`.\n\n## Transport Rules\n\n- For SSE, parse event frames separately from event payloads.\n- For WebSockets, validate each message before reducing it.\n- For async iterables, define cleanup behavior when the consumer stops.\n- Propagate cancellation to the upstream operation when supported.\n- Respect backpressure when bridging streams between runtimes.\n\n## UI Rules\n\n- Keep parsing, validation, and event reduction outside presentational\n  components.\n- Show running, partial, completed, failed, cancelled, timeout, and unknown\n  states explicitly.\n- Do not infer machine state from localized text.\n- Use fallback rendering for unknown future events.\n- Keep timelines stable when events arrive late or duplicate.\n\n## Verification\n\nTest valid event sequences, unknown event types, duplicate events, out-of-order\nevents, stream interruption, cancellation, timeout, and terminal events followed\nby progress.\n","tagline":"Design and review frontend streaming contracts.
