It works for Business Rules, Script Includes, Client Scripts, UI\nScripts, UI Actions, Scheduled Jobs, and other records whose script is stored in\na table field.\n\n## Prerequisites\n\n- Read and write access to the target script table\n- The target ServiceNow instance name\n- A local directory outside the installed npm package\n- Git or another local version-control system\n- The table name, record `sys_id`, and script field name\n- The correct application scope and update set selected before any push\n\n## Procedure\n\n### 1. Discover the record\n\nUse a bounded query with explicit fields. Always route the request to the\nintended instance.\n\n```text\nTool: SN-Query-Table\nParameters:\n  table_name: sys_script_include\n  query: name=IncidentUtils\n  fields: sys_id,name,script,sys_updated_on,sys_mod_count,sys_scope\n  limit: 5\n  instance: dev\n```\n\nStop if the query is ambiguous. Select one `sys_id`; do not update multiple\nsame-named scripts by assumption.\n\n### 2. Pull the authoritative record\n\n```text\nTool: SN-Get-Record\nParameters:\n  table_name: sys_script_include\n  sys_id: <script_sys_id>\n  fields: sys_id,name,script,sys_updated_on,sys_mod_count,sys_scope\n  instance: dev\n```\n\nWrite only the returned `script` value to a local `.js` file. In adjacent local\nmetadata, record the table, `sys_id`, instance, `sys_updated_on`, and\n`sys_mod_count` from this pull. Do not put ServiceNow credentials in the file or\nrepository.\n\nExample layout:\n\n```text\nscripts/servicenow/script_includes/IncidentUtils.js\nscripts/servicenow/script_includes/IncidentUtils.metadata.json\n```\n\n### 3. Edit and review locally\n\nEdit the JavaScript in the IDE, run applicable static checks or tests, and\ninspect the Git diff. Keep the change scoped to the script field you intend to\ndeploy.\n\n### 4. Check remote freshness before pushing\n\nImmediately before updating, retrieve the record again:\n\n```text\nTool: SN-Get-Record\nParameters:\n  table_name: sys_script_include\n  sys_id: <script_sys_id>\n  fields: sys_id,script,sys_updated_on,sys_mod_count\n  instance: dev\n```\n\nCompare both `sys_updated_on` and `sys_mod_count` with the saved pull metadata.\nAlso compare the returned script with the original local base. If any value has\nchanged, stop: pull the new version, review the remote changes, and merge them\nlocally. Never overwrite a fresher remote edit automatically.\n\n### 5. Push the reviewed script field\n\nAfter the freshness check passes, update only the intended field:\n\n```text\nTool: SN-Update-Record\nParameters:\n  table_name: sys_script_include\n  sys_id: <script_sys_id>\n  data:\n    script: <reviewed_local_script>\n  instance: dev\n```\n\nDo not use a background script for this normal record update. The generic MCP\nupdate is the primary operation and preserves per-call instance routing.\n\n### 6. Verify the push\n\nRead the record again with `SN-Get-Record`. Confirm that the remote `script`\nmatches the reviewed local content and record the new `sys_updated_on` and\n`sys_mod_count`. Then verify the associated `sys_update_xml` capture in the\ncurrent update set with a bounded `SN-Query-Table` query.\n\n### 7. Repeat explicitly for later edits\n\nThere is no watch mode in Happy Platform MCP 5.1. For each change, repeat the\nfreshness check, update, and verification. A local file watcher may run linting\nor tests, but it must not push ServiceNow changes without the explicit conflict\ncheck and update sequence above.\n\n## Supported Record Patterns\n\n| Script type | Table | Common script field |\n|---|---|---|\n| Business Rule | `sys_script` | `script` |\n| Script Include | `sys_script_include` | `script` |\n| Client Script | `sys_script_client` | `script` |\n| UI Script | `sys_ui_script` | `script` |\n| UI Action | `sys_ui_action` | `script` |\n| Scheduled Job | `sysauto_script` | `script` |\n| Fix Script | `sys_script_fix` | `script` |\n\nConfirm unfamiliar table and field names with `SN-Get-Table-Schema` before\nadapting this workflow.\n\n## Best Practices\n\n- Set the application scope and update set before pushing configuration.\n- Use explicit `instance` on every live record call, especially in concurrent\n  work or critical environments.\n- Pull immediately before editing and check freshness immediately before push.\n- Limit field selection to the script and concurrency metadata you need.\n- Keep the original pulled version until verification succeeds.\n- Commit local changes only after reviewing the diff and remote verification.\n- Never store instance credentials or access tokens with local script files.\n\n## Troubleshooting\n\n### The remote record changed after the pull\n\nDo not push. Save the local edits, retrieve the new remote script, and perform a\nthree-way merge using the original pull as the base. Re-run the freshness check\nafter resolving the merge.\n\n### The update succeeded but no update-set record appears\n\nConfirm the correct application scope and current update set, then inspect\n`sys_update_xml`. Do not retry blindly: first determine whether the table or\nfield is update-set captured.\n\n### The local and remote scripts differ after update\n\nRetrieve the record again and compare exact content. Check whether a business\nrule, formatter, or scoped-app policy transformed the value.
