A release is: bump the version in\nevery manifest, relock, verify, commit to `main`, then create a GitHub release\nwhose tag `gh` creates for you.\n\nThere is no CHANGELOG file — release notes are generated from merged PR titles,\nso nothing needs to be hand-written.\n\n## 1. Decide the version\n\nAsk the user if they did not say. Otherwise infer from what landed since the last\ntag:\n\n```bash\ngit fetch origin --tags\ngit log --oneline $(git describe --tags --abbrev=0)..origin/main\n```\n\nTags are `vX.Y.Z` (lightweight, created by `gh release create`). Normalize a\nshorthand like \"1.2\" to the full `1.2.0` — every existing tag is three-part.\n\n## 2. Preflight\n\n```bash\ngit switch main && git pull --ff-only\ngit status --short   # must be empty\n```\n\nDo not start from a dirty tree or a stale `main`. If the release is for a PR the\nuser just merged, confirm the merge commit is present in `git log`.\n\n## 3. Bump the version\n\nFind every file carrying the **current** version — do not trust a hardcoded list,\nmanifests get added:\n\n```bash\ngrep -rn \"<current-version>\" --include=\"*.json\" --include=\"*.toml\" --include=\"*.lock\" .\n```\n\nAs of 1.2.0 that is four files:\n\n| File | How to update |\n|---|---|\n| `plugins/icon-composer/.claude-plugin/plugin.json` | edit `\"version\"` |\n| `plugins/icon-composer/.codex-plugin/plugin.json` | edit `\"version\"` |\n| `plugins/icon-composer/skills/compose-app-icon/scripts/pyproject.toml` | edit `version = ` |\n| `plugins/icon-composer/skills/compose-app-icon/scripts/uv.lock` | **never hand-edit** — see below |\n\n`.claude-plugin/marketplace.json` (repo root) carries no version. Leave it alone.\n\nRegenerate the lock instead of editing it:\n\n```bash\ncd plugins/icon-composer/skills/compose-app-icon/scripts && uv lock\n```\n\nThen inspect the diff. `pyproject.toml` sets `exclude-newer = \"1 week\"`, which is\nrelative to *now*, so `uv lock` always rewrites the `exclude-newer` timestamp:\n\n```bash\ngit diff plugins/icon-composer/skills/compose-app-icon/scripts/uv.lock\n```\n\nExpect exactly two changed lines — the project `version` and `exclude-newer`. If\ndependency versions also moved, that is a real dependency upgrade riding along:\nsay so to the user and make sure step 4 passes before deciding to keep it.\n\n## 4. Run the CI gate locally\n\n`.github/workflows/ci.yml` runs these four steps. Run all of them from the\n`scripts/` directory before pushing — CI on `main` is post-hoc, so a red build is\na broken release:\n\n```bash\ncd plugins/icon-composer/skills/compose-app-icon/scripts\nuv sync --locked          # fails if step 3 left the lock out of sync\nuv run pytest\nuv run ruff check .\nuv run ruff format --check .\nuv run ty check\n```\n\n## 5. Commit to `main`\n\nVersion bumps go **directly on `main`** — that is the established convention here\n(`bb92545`, `f2efe76`), not a PR. Commit message in English, subject\n`Bump version to X.Y.Z`, with a body saying what the release contains and which\nPR/issue it came from.\n\n```bash\ngit add -A plugins\ngit commit   # subject: Bump version to X.Y.Z\ngit push origin main\n```\n\nEnd the message with the `Co-Authored-By:` trailer for the model you are running as.\n\n## 6. Publish the release\n\n`gh` creates the tag from `--target`, so do not `git tag` by hand:\n\n```bash\ngh release create vX.Y.Z --target main --title vX.Y.Z --generate-notes\n```\n\n`--generate-notes` produces the \"What's Changed\" PR list, \"New Contributors\", and\nthe compare link — matching every prior release.\n\n## 7. Verify and report\n\n```bash\ngh release view vX.Y.Z\ngh run list --limit 2   # the bump commit's CI run must be success\n```\n\nReport the release URL to the user, plus the CI result. If CI went red after the\npush, say so plainly rather than presenting the release as clean.\n\n## Notes\n\n- Fork PRs need workflow approval, so their checks may show as \"no checks\n  reported\" until approved.
