An ADR records why a decision was made; a baseline records what the\narchitecture is after that decision.\n\nThis skill is a lazy, task-specific workflow. It does not replace\n`verification-before-completion`, does not grant completion authority, and does\nnot make authoritative `GateDecision` or `PolicySnapshot` outputs.\n\n## Required Read Set\n\nBefore deciding or writing, read the smallest relevant excerpts from:\n\n- `docs/adr/ADR-CREATION-GATE.md`\n- `docs/current/AEGIS_ADR_AUTO_BACKFILL.md`\n- the target project's current ADR, baseline, or authority docs that own the\n  affected architecture surface\n\nFor Aegis repository changes, use this repository's `docs/adr/` and\n`docs/current/` authority order. For target projects with their own ADR system,\nrespect that project owner instead of duplicating the same decision into\n`docs/aegis/adr/`.\n\n## When To Use\n\nUse this skill when the user asks to:\n\n- create, write, update, amend, supersede, or evaluate an ADR\n- decide whether an architecture decision record is needed\n- record a durable architecture decision or decision log entry\n- close baseline sync after an ADR-relevant architecture change\n- verify that an ADR action did not leave the architecture baseline stale\n\nDo not use it for simple wording edits, ordinary README cleanup, tests-only\ncoverage improvements, low-risk single-file changes, or bug fixes that only\nrestore the existing baseline.\n\n## Decision Flow\n\n1. Identify the decision candidate and evidence source.\n2. Run the ADR creation gate:\n   - hard to reverse\n   - surprising without context\n   - real trade-off\n3. Apply the Retro / Memory Filter:\n   - executed durable decisions may become ADR or baseline memory\n   - unexecuted ideas stay out of accepted architecture memory\n   - process notes may use a lighter record when they do not change current\n     architecture state\n4. Choose exactly one ADR action: create, amend, supersede, or skip.\n5. Choose the owner surface: project `docs/adr/`, `docs/aegis/adr/`, existing\n   ADR, or lighter record.\n6. Run Baseline Sync Closure.\n7. If writing files, preserve local ADR conventions and verify structure.\n\n## Helper-Backed Write Path\n\nWhen the chosen owner surface is a target project's `docs/aegis/adr/`, use the\nshared workspace helper instead of ad-hoc file creation:\n\n- `create` -> `<aegis-workspace-helper> new-adr --root <target-project-root> ...`\n- `amend` -> `<aegis-workspace-helper> amend-adr --root <target-project-root> --path docs/aegis/adr/ADR-####-<slug>.md ...`\n- `supersede` -> `<aegis-workspace-helper> supersede-adr --root <target-project-root> --path docs/aegis/adr/ADR-####-<slug>.md ...`\n\nAfter helper-backed writeback, run:\n\n- `<aegis-workspace-helper> check --root <target-project-root>`\n\nThe helper owns file shape, ADR numbering, supersession markers, and\n`INDEX.md` coverage only. It does not decide architecture truth, whether the\nADR gate passed, or whether baseline sync is semantically sufficient.\n\nIf the ADR gate or owner-surface decision says `skip`, do not create or amend\nADR files just because the helper exists. An ADR signal in a design/plan is a\nnote for later completion, not an ADR file.
