Bad architecture makes every change scary.\n\n## Operating Modes\n\nPick the mode that matches the request before starting:\n\n- **Layout review** (default) — assess an existing codebase against the\n  sections below and report violations with severity.\n- **Refactor plan** — same assessment, but the deliverable is an ordered\n  migration plan (smallest safe steps first), not just findings.\n- **New service consultation** — asked \"how should I structure X\":\n  apply sections 1-3 as prescriptive guidance instead of review checks.\n\n## Auditing Large Codebases\n\nFor repositories with many packages, build the dependency picture before\njudging it:\n\n1. Map the module: `go list ./...` for packages, then import statements\n   to trace dependency direction.\n2. Run independent passes: (a) layout vs section 1, (b) dependency\n   direction vs section 2, (c) wiring and config vs sections 3+5,\n   (d) package design vs section 4.\n3. If your environment supports delegating work to parallel sub-agents\n   or tasks, assign each pass to one; synthesize at the end — dependency\n   findings often explain layout findings.\n4. Cite package paths and `file.go:line` in every finding.\n\n## 1. Use it aggressively.\n- `pkg/` is for genuinely reusable packages. When in doubt, use `internal/`.\n- `cmd/` main packages should be thin — wire dependencies and call `Run()`.\n- One `main.go` per binary, minimal logic inside.\n\n## 2. Dependency Direction\n\nDependencies MUST flow inward. Domain core has zero external dependencies:\n\n```text\nhandlers → services → domain ← stores\n    ↓          ↓                  ↓\n  (net/http)  (pure Go)     (database/sql)\n```\n\nRules:\n- `domain/` imports NOTHING from the project. No `store`, no `handler`, no `config`.\n- `service/` depends on `domain/` types and interfaces, NOT on concrete stores.\n- `handler/` depends on `service/` interfaces.\n- `store/` implements interfaces defined in `service/` or `domain/`.\n- Circular dependencies are a 🔴 BLOCKER. Main Package Wiring\n\n`main.go` is the composition root. Go's explicit wiring is a feature.\nIf wiring gets complex, use Google's `wire` for compile-time DI code generation.\n\n## 4. Package Design Principles\n\n### One package = one purpose\n\n```go\n// ✅ Good — clear purpose\npackage orderservice  // business rules for orders\npackage postgres      // PostgreSQL data access\npackage httphandler   // HTTP transport layer\n\n// ❌ Bad — grab-bag packages\npackage utils    // what ISN'T a util?\npackage common   // everything and nothing\npackage models   // types without behavior\n```\n\n### Avoid package stuttering\n\n```go\n// ❌ Bad — package name repeated in type\npackage user\ntype UserService struct{} // user.UserService\n\n// ✅ Good\npackage user\ntype Service struct{} // user.Service\n```\n\n### Package cohesion over size\n\nA package with 20 related files is better than 20 packages with 1 file each.\nSplit packages when they have distinct responsibilities, not when they get big.\n\n## 5. Not even \"just for now.\"\n\n## 6. Init Functions\n\nAvoid `init()`.
