Keep prompting light — a few exchanges, not fifteen. Author from the\none-page template `.claude/docs/templates/game-brief.md` (6 required fields + 2\none-liners). If it runs past ~7, push back on scope.\n   - **Out of scope** — what they're deliberately NOT building.\n   - **Build order** — sequence to build the MVP, risky / core-fun thing first.\n   - **Who it's for / what they feel** and **Art & audio direction** — one line each\n     (offer, don't force).\n   Present the filled brief back in full for a single confirmation.\n3. **Write approval** — `AskUserQuestion`: \"Brief is ready. May I write it to\n   `design/game-brief.md`?\" → `[A] Yes — write it` / `[B] Revise a field first`. On\n   [B], revise the named field, show before/after, re-ask; repeat until [A]. Then\n   write `design/game-brief.md` from the template, creating directories as needed.\n   Honor `modes.automation` for this write as elsewhere in the framework.\n4. **Next steps** (short — this is the point). **Read `engine.name` from\n   `project.yaml` first and list `/setup-engine` only if it is absent or empty:**\n   1. *(only when `engine.name` is absent or empty)* \"`/setup-engine` — configure\n      the engine (required before code)\"\n   2. \"`/create-stories` — turn the brief's MVP list into implementable stories. Genres you avoid? Why?\n- Do you prefer games that challenge you, relax you, tell you stories,\n  or let you express yourself? *(Use `AskUserQuestion` for this — constrained choice.)*\n\n**Practical constraints** (shape the sandbox before brainstorming).\nBundle these into a single multi-tab `AskUserQuestion` with these exact tab labels:\n- Tab \"Experience\" — \"What kind of experience do you most want players to have?\" (Challenge & Mastery / Story & Discovery / Expression & Creativity / Relaxation & Flow)\n- Tab \"Timeline\" — \"What's your realistic development timeline?\" (Weeks / Months / 1-2 years / Multi-year)\n- Tab \"Dev level\" — \"Where are you in your dev journey?\" (First game / Shipped before / Professional background)\n\nUse exactly these tab names — do not rename or duplicate them.\n\n**Synthesize** the answers into a **Creative Brief** — a 3-5 sentence\nsummary of the person's emotional goals, taste profile, and constraints.\nRead the brief back and confirm it captures their intent.\n\n---\n\n### Phase 2: Concept Generation\n\nUsing the creative brief as a foundation, generate **3 distinct concepts**\nthat each take a different creative direction. Use these ideation techniques:\n\n**Technique 1: Verb-First Design**\nStart with the core player verb (build, fight, explore, solve, survive,\ncreate, manage, discover) and build outward from there. The verb IS the game.\n\n**Technique 2: Mashup Method**\nCombine two unexpected elements: [Genre A] + [Theme B]. The tension between\nthe two creates the unique hook. (e.g., \"farming sim + cosmic horror\",\n\"roguelike + dating sim\", \"city builder + real-time combat\")\n\n**Technique 3: Experience-First Design (MDA Backward)**\nStart from the desired player emotion (aesthetic goal from MDA framework:\nsensation, fantasy, narrative, challenge, fellowship, discovery, expression,\nsubmission) and work backward to the dynamics and mechanics that produce it.\n\nFor each concept, present:\n- **Working Title**\n- **Elevator Pitch** (1-2 sentences — must pass the \"10-second test\")\n- **Core Verb** (the single most common player action)\n- **Core Fantasy** (the emotional promise)\n- **Unique Hook** (passes the \"and also\" test: \"Like X, AND ALSO Y\")\n- **Primary MDA Aesthetic** (which emotion dominates?)\n- **Estimated Scope** (small / medium / large)\n- **Why It Could Work** (1 sentence on market/audience fit)\n- **Biggest Risk** (1 sentence on the hardest unanswered question)\n\nPresent all three. Then use `AskUserQuestion` to capture the selection.\n\n**This decision asks regardless of `modes.automation`.** Concept selection\nis the creative heart of `/brainstorm` and has no defensible autonomous\ndefault — there is no algorithmic way to pick which creative direction\nresonates with the user. Per `.claude/docs/automation-modes.md`, treat\nthis site as exempt (it overrides the mode the same way\n`automation_always_ask` categories do).\n\n**CRITICAL**: This MUST be a plain list call — no tabs, no form fields. Generate options that match the concept. Always include a free-text escape.\n\nAfter capturing answers, analyze: Is this action intrinsically satisfying? What makes it feel good?
