Read and Understand RCA\n\n- Read the ENTIRE RCA document thoroughly\n- Review the GitHub issue details (issue #$ARGUMENTS)\n- Understand the root cause\n- Review the proposed fix strategy\n- Note all files to modify\n- Review testing requirements\n\n### 2. Verify Current State — and check for drift\n\nBefore making changes:\n- Confirm the issue still exists.\n- **Drift check:** read each file the RCA names and compare against the RCA's \"current code\" snippets / line refs.\n  If the code has **changed materially** since the RCA, **stop** — surface the drift and suggest re-running\n  `piv-investigate-issue` for issue #$ARGUMENTS rather than implementing a stale plan.\n- Confirm the proposed fix still addresses the root cause — don't silently deviate.\n\n### 2b. Get on the right branch\n\n- **In a worktree?** Use it (it was created for this work).\n- **On the base branch, clean tree?** Create a fix branch — `git checkout -b fix/issue-$ARGUMENTS-<slug>` (detect\n  the base with `git symbolic-ref refs/remotes/origin/HEAD`; never hardcode `main`).\n- **Already on a feature/fix branch?** Use it (warn if its name doesn't reference #$ARGUMENTS).\n- **Dirty tree on the base branch?** Stop — ask the user to commit or stash first.\n\n### 3. Implement the Fix\n\nFollowing the \"Proposed Fix\" section of the RCA:\n\n**For each file to modify:**\n\n#### a. Read the existing file\n- Understand current implementation\n- Locate the specific code mentioned in RCA\n\n#### b. Make the fix\n- Implement the change as described in RCA\n- Follow the fix strategy exactly\n- Maintain code style and conventions\n- Add comments if the fix is non-obvious\n\n#### c. Handle related changes\n- Update any related code affected by the fix\n- Ensure consistency across the codebase\n- Update imports if needed\n\n**Stay on plan:** implement what the RCA specifies — don't refactor unrelated code or add unplanned\n\"improvements.\" If you must deviate, note what changed and why, and surface it in the report (and the PR).\n\n### 4. Add/Update Tests\n\nFollowing the \"Testing Requirements\" from RCA:\n\n**Create test cases for:**\n1. Verify the fix resolves the issue\n2. Test edge cases related to the bug\n3. Ensure no regression in related functionality\n4.
