Do not use for routine edits; use night-market-change-control.'\n---\n\n# Night Market Model and Harness Updates\n\nWhen Anthropic ships a model or Claude Code ships a version, the pins\nscattered through this repo rot silently. This skill runs the sweep that\nfinds the rot, researches what actually changed, applies the updates,\nand records where upstream stood so the next run reports only the new\ndelta.\n\nThe watermark is the point. Without it every audit restarts from zero\nand re-derives the same answer by hand. `.claude/upstream-baseline.json`\nholds the last recorded upstream state, and each run diffs against it.\n\n## When to run\n\n| Trigger | Signal |\n|---------|--------|\n| Model release | A tier or model ID ships that the ledger does not record |\n| Harness release | `claude --version` differs from the ledger |\n| Scheduled check | Monthly, to catch a release nobody noticed |\n\n## The five steps\n\nRun them in order. Recording a\nmigration that has not passed its proof is the failure the ledger exists\nto prevent.\n\n## What the detector proves and what it cannot\n\nHarness drift is fully deterministic: the installed binary reports its\nown version. Model drift is not. No local command enumerates the current\nroster, so the ledger holds the last known roster and research\nestablishes the current one. The skill states this split rather than\npretending both halves are automatic.\n\nThe detector reports four classes:\n\n| Class | Meaning |\n|-------|---------|\n| `harness` | Installed version differs from the ledger |\n| `vocabulary` | A gate's frozen set omits a value the ledger records |\n| `dated_ids` | Dated model IDs above the recorded ratchet |\n| `unknown_tier` | Frontmatter names a tier absent from the roster |\n\nThe `vocabulary` class is the one that earns this skill. `VALID_MODELS`\nin `scripts/check_agent_model_matrix.py` is a hard gate that rejects any\nagent pinning an unlisted tier. When Fable shipped and that set was not\nwidened, the guard whose job was to prevent model rot had itself rotted,\nand no agent in the repo could pin the new tier. The detector now fails\non that condition instead of waiting for someone to trip over it.\n\n## Modules\n\nLoad only what the run needs.\n\n| Module | Load when |\n|--------|-----------|\n| `modules/drift-detection.md` | Always, at step 1 |\n| `modules/research-protocol.md` | Step 1 reported drift |\n| `modules/asset-sweep.md` | Research produced findings to apply |\n| `modules/verification.md` | Before writing the ledger |\n\n## Guardrails\n\n- Widen vocabularies, never narrow them. Removing an accepted value\n  breaks agents that currently pass.\n- Agent frontmatter pins tier aliases, never dated model IDs.\n  `check_agent_model_matrix.py` enforces this and the policy stands.\n  A new tier widens the vocabulary. It does not reverse the rule.\n- The `dated_ids` ratchet may fall and may hold. Raising it needs a\n  reason recorded in the migration report.\n- External captures under `data/staging/` are other people's text.\n  The detector skips them and so does the sweep.\n\n## Exit Criteria\n\n- [ ] `python3 scripts/check_upstream_drift.py` exits `0`.\n- [ ] `python3 scripts/check_agent_model_matrix.py` exits `0`.\n- [ ] `uv run pytest tests/unit/test_check_upstream_drift.py` passes.\n- [ ] Every research claim applied carries a source URL, and release\n      notes plus the model card were both consulted.\n- [ ] A migration report exists under\n      `docs/migrations/`. The directory is gitignored, so the report is\n      a local working artifact. Route durable content out of it before\n      you finish: findings to `docs/knowledge-corpus/`, open items to\n      `docs/backlog/queue.md`, state to the ledger.\n- [ ] `.claude/upstream-baseline.json` records the new harness version,\n      model roster, and `last_migration`, with the previous entry\n      appended to `history`.\n- [ ] Any asset class the research implicated was either updated or\n      recorded in the report as deliberately skipped.\n","tagline":"Sweep plugins, skills, agents, commands, and hooks after a model release or Claude Code version bump.
