Prefer a\nseparately installed `kepano/obsidian-skills` `obsidian-bases` skill, then the\ncurrent [official Bases syntax](https://help.obsidian.md/bases/syntax), for\ndetailed or version-sensitive fields and functions.\n\nAnswer design and syntax questions read-only. For a requested `.base` edit,\nresolve the user vault and use one inspected transaction; never write the file\ndirectly.\n\nResolve the installed product root from this skill's own location, not from the\nvault or current working directory:\n\n```bash\nPRODUCT_ROOT=/absolute/path/to/installed/claude-obsidian\nCORE=\"$PRODUCT_ROOT/scripts/claude-obsidian.py\"\ntest -f \"$CORE\"\n```\n\n## Workflow\n\n1. Inspect representative note properties and any existing `.base` file.\n2. Define the smallest filter that selects the intended notes.\n3. Add formulas only for values that must be computed.\n4. Choose views and display order. Do not assume a view type or option is\n   supported by the user's Obsidian version or installed plugins.\n5. Validate YAML, expression quoting, property names, formula references, and\n   null handling.\n6. Preview the complete file and expected result set before a mutation.\n7. If an edit was requested, read\n   [operation-transactions.md](../wiki/references/operation-transactions.md),\n   keep the `.base` file under `wiki/`, and build one\n   `claude-obsidian.transaction.v1` bundle with `operation_type: base`. Ask the user to render the Base in Obsidian when application-level behavior\n   cannot be verified locally.\n\n## Compact schema\n\n`.base` files are YAML. A view may also define its own `filters`.\nRecursive filter objects use one of `and`, `or`, or `not` at each level.\n\n```yaml\nfilters:\n  or:\n    - file.hasTag(\"concept\")\n    - and:\n        - file.hasTag(\"source\")\n        - 'status == \"active\"'\n```\n\nUse note properties by name, file metadata as `file.name`, `file.path`,\n`file.folder`, `file.ext`, `file.ctime`, `file.mtime`, or `file.tags`, and\ncomputed properties as `formula.<name>`.\n\n## Formula and YAML rules\n\n- Quote expressions that contain operators, colons, or nested string quotes.\n- Guard nullable properties with `if()`.\n- Subtracting two dates returns a millisecond number.
