Use for defuddle, clean this URL, strip page clutter, readable Markdown from a web page, or preparing a web source for later wiki ingestion.\n---\n\n# Defuddle\n\nTreat Defuddle as an optional external extractor, not an internal capability.\nCleaning, raw capture, and wiki ingestion are separate operations.\n\nResolve the installed product root from this skill's own location, never from\nthe selected vault or process working directory:\n\n```bash\nPRODUCT_ROOT=/absolute/path/to/installed/claude-obsidian\nCORE=\"$PRODUCT_ROOT/scripts/claude-obsidian.py\"\ntest -f \"$CORE\"\n```\n\nIf a separately installed `kepano/obsidian-skills` `defuddle` skill is\navailable, prefer it for current CLI flags. Retain the privacy, consent, and\ntransaction rules in this skill.\n\n## Safety contract\n\n- Accept remote inputs only as HTTPS URLs.\n- Reject credentials in URLs, fragments, private or local hosts, non-public IP\n  addresses, control characters, and sensitive query parameters.\n- Never interpolate a URL into a shell string. Pass it as one argv element.\n- Treat redirects to a different host as denied until that host is explicitly\n  approved.\n- State that the URL and request metadata will leave the machine. Network\n  access requires explicit consent in the current request or a separate\n  confirmation.\n- Do not install a cleaner, execute a placeholder runner, or silently switch to\n  another network fetcher.\n- Do not claim a fixed token reduction or extraction quality. Inspect the\n  actual output.\n\n## Plan first\n\nCreate an inert URL plan. This validates the URL and executes no network call:\n\n```bash\npython3 \"$CORE\" capture external-plan url \"HTTPS_URL\"\n```\n\nReport the normalized host, network egress, redirect policy, optional external\ndependency, and `execute: false`. Then inspect whether this package can find a\nconfigured Defuddle executable:\n\n```bash\npython3 \"$CORE\" contracts --verify --capability defuddle --vault VAULT\n```\n\nAn `available` state means no executable was found; stop with the inert plan.\nA `configured` state means the executable was discovered, but this package has\nno bundled behavioral verifier for it. Show that state and reason, identify the\nresolved executable path, and require manual review of its provenance, version,\nand exact argv before execution. Never relabel `configured` as `verified`.\n\nWhen unavailable or when manual review is declined, offer these honest\nfallbacks: let the user install/configure an external runner, accept a local\nHTML or Markdown file in `inbox/`, or leave the URL queued for later. Do not\nclaim that content was cleaned, captured, or ingested.\n\n## Execute after consent\n\nAfter network consent, configured-state detection, and manual executable\nreview, invoke the approved executable with an argv equivalent to:\n\n```text\ndefuddle parse HTTPS_URL --md\n```\n\nCapture bounded stdout in a temporary draft outside shared vault state. Fail\nclosed on a non-zero exit, empty output, unexpected binary output, an\nunapproved redirect, or a response that is clearly an authentication/error\npage. Preserve headings, links, code fences, tables, quotations, and source\nwording; do not invent missing content.\n\nPreview the cleaned Markdown and report extraction limitations. If the user\nasked only to read or analyze it, keep the result transient.\n\n## Optional raw capture\n\nWhen the user asks to retain the cleaned source:\n\n1. Resolve the user vault.\n2. Hash the exact cleaned bytes with SHA-256.\n3. Draft a new immutable payload such as\n   `.raw/captured/<sha256>.md` and, when provenance metadata is needed, a new\n   create-only sidecar with the normalized URL, retrieval date, extractor name\n   and version, and content hash.\n4. Use `expected_hashes: null` and `mode: create`. If that content-addressed\n   payload already exists with the same bytes, report a no-op; never overwrite\n   it.\n5. Build, inspect, and apply one `claude-obsidian.transaction.v1` capture\n   bundle as described in\n   [operation-transactions.md](../wiki/references/operation-transactions.md).\n\nDo not create wiki pages, update indexes, assess claims, or mark the source as\ningested.
